Do French citizens need a visa to Vietnam?

No, if you just stay in the country for no more than 15 days. Otherwise, a visa for Vietnam is required.

Note:

  • You cannot extend your Vietnam visa waiver in Vietnam currently. As such, in case you wish to stay in Vietnam for more than 15 consecutive days, a valid Vietnam visa should be obtained beforehand.
  • The requirement on the 30-day interval between the stays with visa waivers has been removed. It means that French citizens can enter Vietnam visa-free for every trip of no more than 15 days.

Currently, the French passport holders can get a 30 days single entry tourist visa only which is issued in the form of a loose-leaf visa and must be obtained before departure for Vietnam (it is known as Vietnam e visa or electronic visa).

This type of tourist visa can be applied for online by the applicants themselves or their representatives and is then issued online by the Vietnam Immigration Department.

It normally takes you 3 working days or longer to get this e-visa yourself, depending on the volume of applications submitted to the Vietnam Immigration Department.
